On May 26, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended an iftar hosted by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation on Monday.
In recent times a Video of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee became viral where she is seen stopping her convoy, getting off from her car and instructing policemen to arrest those who chanted “Jai Shri Ram”, terming them as criminals and outsiders.
Mamata Banerjee is heard instructing her policemen to search houses in the area and arrest those who have chanted Jai Shri Ram or are involved in the incidence.
Jai Shri Ram Chanting in West Bengal has become a big controversial political issue as Mamata Banerjee has reacted couple of times to those who have chanted these words in her presence.
In the Lok Sabha Elections , the BJP won a whopping 18 seats, touching an impressive figure in Bengal for the first time.
The BJP, has termed Mamata Banerjee’s behaviour fascist and has announced to send 10 lakh ‘Jai Shri Ram’ postcards to her.
Hence, In the politically charged West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s main Opposition, the BJP, has alleged that she panders to the minority votebank and ignores the Hindu population. Where as Mamata Banerjee says that the BJP is trying to communalize and disturb Bengal’s politics by bringing outsiders to chant Jai Shri Ram and target minorities.
In this charged atmosphere, Mamata Banerjee’s breaking fast with Muslims during Ramzan sends a clear political signal, and very much possible that Bengal is going to be taking headline in recent times.
